The two Simonas: Italian pacifists helping Iraqi children

Simona Torretta and Simona Pari, the two Italian hostages said to have been killed by the Islamic organistion which kidnapped them in Baghdad, are committed pacifists working on humanitarian projects for Iraqi children.

Both aged 29, the two Simonas work for the Rome-based non-governmental organistation A Bridge to Baghdad and were captured along with two Iraqis by armed men who burst into their office in the Iraqi capital on September 7.

Their murder has been claimed in an internet message by the Ansar Al-Zawahiri Group, which demanded the release of all Muslim women imprisoned in Iraq in exchange for their release, but there has been no confirmaiton of their fate.
